Hi Guys! (If any??)

Hi everyone out there on the www (if anyone comes on here ever???) I'm just saying that I was locked out of my blog for ages because my accounts got muddled and anyway, but now i've got it fixed and I can post!!

It's been a long time since I posted on here but a lot has changed...

I'll start off...

I've recently ordered a pair of red JVC HA-FX35 earphones because another thing that happened is I saved up for an iPod Touch and ordered it the night it was announced and the phones that come with it are well let me say a little bit, well, complete rubbish!! Well when I say that I mean they work fine and sound great but there's no noise cancelling and they always fall out of my ears if I run or even walk. So that's why I ordered them...

My iPod is absolutely great and I'm so glad I saved up and got the 32GB version because I've already filled up like, say, 12GB of mostly music.

BUT yesterday I heard that Gorillaz are splitting up and I was like what the?? Is this true?? They left us with their last album THE FALL? Fail. If this is true then there will be no more Gorillaz music, videos, games, ANYTHING? What's the point it's probably not true anyway but if it is WHY GORILLAZ WHY??

Oh yeah and I'm in year 7 now - comberton's great!! Gotta go!! I'll update when I get my JVC's...

iPad first impressions.

Yesterday (Saturday May 29th) I went to cambridge to see if there was an iPad anywhere.

First I went into John Lewis and went to the technology department, there were iPhones, shuffles, touches, nanos, classics etc... But no iPad. :(

So I went to the Apple Store. Inside there were crowds of people shoving their way through to get a go on an iPad. I looked around, then suddenly I spotted: A spare iPad!!

Firstly when I picked it up it felt strangely heavy, but very well built and solid. Then I stroked my finger across the large, glossy screen and it instantly came to life, unlocking in my hands. The apps appeared...

Well, it comes with a dozed built-in apps and the dock at the bottom. The first app I tried was Safari, It's amazing how responsive and well built this product feels. One tap and a keyboard appears, Tilting the iPad horizontally makes the keyboard grow to full-size and typing is no-delay, ease of use heaven. Navigating around a website is also just as rewarding as it uses essentially the same pinch zoom gestures as the iPod touch and the iPhone but just feels more effective and entertaining.

Next, I tried the built-in photo app. The main reason I tried this app next was to test the pinch zooming and the iPad-exclusive photo stacks GUI. That particular app is very intuitive and just "feels right" because it behaves like a physical object and our brains have already learnt about friction, gravity and momentum etc so there's no need to learn how to use the UI.

After that, I tried a London Underground map app ("Map app" I think I'm making a rap) Anyway, it was basically a giant image of the tube map on an iPad. It didn't seem to be interactive, that was until I spotted a small menu on the top left corner of the screen. It had a few options like Travel, (I can't remember). So I clicked something and it let me type in a tube station, so I typed K-I-N-G-'-S and it came up with King's Cross St Pancras so I clicked it and it asked me to select an option from this list Circle, District, Hammersmith & City, Jubbilee, Metropolitan etc... I got bored and exited the app.

Last of all, I tried "Real Racing". I clicked on the app and the "Firemint" logo sprang up. Then came the menu screen, the menu screen was very fancy, It's 3D and had options like: "Quick race", "Story", "Garage", the usual. So I went through a few screens and finally got to race. It starts off with a countdown (3, 2, 1, Go!) But just beeps on the numbers instead of saying 321 in a cheesy voice like some other games do. The controls are as follows: tilt forward to accelarate, tilt back to reverse/brake, tilt left to turn left and vice-versa. It also has a clever way of making it seem real. As you tilt the iPad, the on-screen image tilts in exactly the opposite direction therefore, canceling out the tilt and maintaining a level horizon. I finished first in the race ;) which was pretty awesome.

I didn't have very much time with the iPad, but it was definately enough to realize that everything in the iPad works very well and all fits together to make the perfect iPad. I encountered no bugs whatsoever even despite the fact that I tried the iPad on day two in the UK. When I say I "tried" the iPad it sounds like I mean that I tried it but it just didn't work. I experienced exactly the oppostite.

Although I ran into zero problems with the iPad, there are always improvements to be made. Apple, here are my suggestions for the iPad 2nd Gen:

1. Cheaper. For £500 you could get a decent laptop or netbook so come on, lower that price a bit.

2. Camera (Preferably front-facing). This would just open up a whole new world of Sony iToy-like games on the app store.

3. Cover Flow. Why didn't they add cover flow? It worked great on the iPod touch and the iPhone so why not the big screen-iPad?

I would love to get an iPad (maybe even 2G) but £500 is just way too much for me. I think I'll wait for the iPod touch 4G and get that when it comes out instead. For now I'll just have to stick with my paper net of an iPad and hope the price comes down.

So far I have £190 and I need £210 for the iPod, £20 to go...

Website

I know said I would put up my new website on the 30th October (I was being a bit optimistic!) but I am still not happy with the way it looks...

I'm going to change the whole design of the website to look completely different. I am aiming for a Mac OS X kind of style with mac buttons and glass scroll bars.

I will keep updating this every time I make a new image on Photoshop Elements or Fireworks so you can see and maybe even use them yourself!!

Micro Men

Hi everyone! I'm currently re-doing my whole website from scratch. It looks really good and it should be up on the internet around the 20th October... I also watched a really interesting TV programme called Micro Men. It's about the battle to make the first, usable home computer, but be warned, it has A LOT of bad language!!

Below is a picture of Clive Sinclair
& Chris Curry.
